Who Created the Creator?

First Reflection: Does the Law of Causality Apply to the Creator?

The Logic Behind the Question

The question “Who created the Creator?” is based on the principle of causality: “Everything that exists must have a cause; every effect must have a cause. So, if everything needs a creator, why wouldn’t this same principle apply to the Creator Himself? Isn’t it logical that He, too, was preceded by a creator? Doesn’t this lead to an infinite regress of creators?”

A Logical Fallacy

Despite how common it is, this question involves a logical fallacy known as: Begging the Question. The one who poses this question has already assumed the existence of a Creator. By doing so, they acknowledge that He is outside the system of causality. So if they then ask, “And who created Him?”, they fall into contradiction: They demand that the one they defined as the origin of all existence be part of that existence! They want the one outside the causal chain to be subject to it!

Who Shelved the Librarian? Or Who Wrote the Author?

To make this clearer: Imagine a book in a library, neatly arranged by the librarian. If the books asked: “Who placed us here?” The logical answer would be: “The librarian.” But if one book asked: “And who placed the librarian on the shelf?” The answer would be: “He’s a human — made of flesh and blood — while you are paper and ink. Shelving doesn’t apply to him. He simply exists outside your system. He’s not a book to be placed on a shelf!” Similarly, if characters in a fictional story asked: “Who wrote us?” That would be a valid question. But if one of them asked: “And who wrote the author?” They’ve ignored the fact that the author is outside the story, not a character within it. He is its creator — from beyond its frame.

Logical Conclusion

The laws that govern contingent beings — such as the need for a cause, existence in time, and subjection to change — cannot be applied to one who is defined as: “The Creator of existence.” The Creator is not a part of the causal chain — but its origin. He exists outside the temporal law of causality, which the questioner mistakenly tries to impose on Him from within a system He Himself made. Thus, the question “Who created the Creator?” turns out to be self-defeating, not logically sound.
